During September, October, and November, I had the opportunity of having a variety of experiences to promote Abuelita’s Gift and El regalo de abuelita. From blog and radio interviews, to podcasts, panels and story times, Abuelita’s Gift promotion season was full of fun and wonderful moments.
Now that I have more time, I wanted to make a list of those special memories so that I won’t forget all the events I was lucky to enjoy while promoting these books.
***
1. Virtual launch event with author CK Malone and both out our teams to celebrate the launch of Popi’s All Souls Song and Abuelita’s Gift. The event was hosted by author Federico Erebia on September 10th. I’m very grateful for CK’s kind invitation. I had a really nice time learning about their book and being able to share about Abuelita’s Gift with everyone who attended the event. The fact that my agent, Natascha Morris, and my editor, Gianna Lakenauth, participated in the panel with me, was so special. This was the perfect way to welcome Abuelita’s Gift and El regalo de abuelita into the world!
2. Radio interview with ICAN radio on my birthday!
3. Feature on People en Español Magazine.
4. In person visit at Concord Elementary in Anderson, SC.
5. Q&A with Random House Children’s – Teachers and Librarians
6. Virtual visit with kids in Mexico, Peru and Africa through Village Voices organization – in English and Spanish.
7. Storytime at Anderson County Library.
8. Storytime at Pendleton Bookshop.
9. Participant in Storytime Sprint.
10. Virtual school visits with Mid Valley Elementary (in Spanish), JBE Elementary, and Gidney Avenue Memorial school.
11. Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with a presentation in Anderson University.
12. Featured in blogs: Season’s of Kidlit, Kidlit Village, Las Musas, Picture Book Builders.
13. Interview in Reading with Your Kids podcast alongside author Jolene Gutiérrez, hosted by Jed Doherty.
14. Bilingual Panel in LatinX Kidlit Book Festival among some of my Musas friends – Multigenerational Stories.
15. Author’s Journey presentation in Anderson’s Adult Education Centre.
16. Imagination Friday through World of Worlds.
17. Both books got to display the orange banner of TOP NEW RELEASE in Amazon.
As you can see, I had several chances to share about these books during promotion season. I feel very lucky for the things I got to do. I can only hope that next year more people will get to read this story and that it will touch the lives of many more children.
Special thanks to the schools, bookstores, and libraries for welcoming me to share my books with children. I’m also very grateful towards the blogs, podcasts, programs, and kidlit events that invited me to talk about Abuelita’s Gift or that featured the books in their publications.
I want to take this moment to thank my publicists Kim Small and Casey Blackwell for all their hard work on setting up opportunities to promote the books.
And finally, thanks to everyone who has bought a copy of the book, left a review, or shared about it with friends, family or on social media. You’ve really made a difference!
Thanks for reading!
