Today is such a special day because I finally get to share the covers of my upcoming books ABUELITA’S GIFT: A DIA DE MUERTOS STORY and its Spanish edition EL REGALO DE ABUELITA: UN CUENTO DE DIA DE MUERTOS. ♥️ As you can imagine, this is a very important and meaningful milestone in the life of every book and author. I can’t wait to add the covers to my website!
The cover reveal was hosted by talented author Vivian Kirkfield on her wonderful blog. I invite you to check out the post to learn more about these books, find the covers and also the links to Goodreads and preorders in several bookstores. Thank you!
This story is very special to me for several reasons. First of all, it’s about a beautiful tradition of my country, México, and I’m glad I get to share about it with little readers. However, this story also has a lot of personal touches. For starters, several characters have names of my own family members. For example, Julieta, the name of the main character is the name of my maternal grandmother (and my aunt and one of my cousins), while José is the name of my maternal grandpa and he was a pilot, just like Julieta’s abuelito. Another curious fact is that the release date of these books is scheduled for September 10th, 2024, which coincidentally turns out to be my abuelita Julieta’s birthday. Can you believe it? I couldn’t help to tear up when I found out.
I’m so thankful to award winning artist Sara Palacios, the talented illustrator of this book, because her beautiful art brought the words of my story to life in a way I hadn’t imagined. She’s really blown me away! I love it and I can’t wait for you to see the interior art soon!
Special thanks to my agent Natascha Morris and the wonderful team at Knopf that worked on these books: my editor Gianna Lakenauth, designer Taline Boghosian, and copy editor Artie Bennett.
Thanks for reading.
